Need something cleared up? Here are our most frequently asked questions.

Dot HK is a decentralized identifier (DID) that you own which allows you to identify yourself on the internet without having to give away your private data. With Dot HK, you have full ownership of your personally identifiable information, complete control of your data and who has access to it, and the right to earn rewards when your data is used. Dot HK is powered by Animoca Brands and secured by Terminal 3, a leading Web3 company building user data infrastructure for a more equitable future.

Your personal data is cryptographically secured using symmetric key encryption, keeping it safe even against quantum computing attacks. The moment you input your personal information, that data is encrypted on your device with a private key, and you are the only one who can control access to this encrypted data.

Dot HK leverages decentralized storage which means no entity (company or person) besides the user has ownership and control over their data. Your encrypted data is atomized into pieces and stored across numerous independent nodes in a global network of computers. No single node holds enough pieces of your data to reassemble it. This increases security and reliability, and is a far safer alternative to centralized storage servers operated by a single company, which are prone to loss of data through hardware failures, cyberattacks, and often disclose your data to third parties without your consent.

Your data is only accessible with your permission, and only in a privacy-preserving environment. With your permission, Terminal 3 will perform queries on your encrypted data using advanced structured encryption, which means that your underlying data is never exposed. The results of those queries can then be presented to third parties, while your private data is never revealed or copied. As an example, if you “stake” your data and grant permission for companies to send you emails, they will do so without ever seeing your securely stored email address. When you decide to “unstake” your data, companies will no longer be able to send you any communications.
